Preliminary reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicate there were six traffic fatalities, one boating fatality and one drowning over Memorial Day Weekend

The counting period ran from 6 p.m. Friday, May 28, through 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 31.

Troopers investigated 270 traffic crashes that resulted in 82 injuries and four of the fatalities. Troopers also arrested 112 persons for Driving While Intoxicated and made 77 drug arrests.

The Springfield Police Department and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department each investigated one traffic fatality.

There were 10 boating crashes, which included two injuries. Troopers also arrested eight persons for Boating While Intoxicated and made two drug arrests.

During last year’s Memorial Day weekend counting period, there were 310 traffic crashes, resulting in 10 deaths and 126 injuries; 118 arrests for DWI; 11 boating crashes- seven injuries and one fatality; 11 arrests for BWI; and one person drowned.
