Two children had to be flown from the scene of a rollover all-terrain vehicle crash in Chariton County on Saturday, September 11.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as a northbound ATV, driven by a 5-year-old boy, was traveling too fast for conditions, and the driver lost control. The ATV overturned and rolled several times, ejecting both occupants- neither of whom was wearing a safety device.

The driver and an 8-year-old girl- both of Mendon- were flown by Air Evac and Life Flight helicopters to Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash happened at 6 p.m. on Zion Avenue, two miles southeast of Mendon.
