Strong winds caused some damage and led to outdoor early-warning storm sirens to be sounded in several area counties on December 15.

At the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, December 23, Emergency Management Agency Director Tony Day explained why the sirens were sounded.

Day said it’s very dangerous to be outside when winds are that strong.

Day explained there was minor damage reported in the county.

Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden reminds residents they can sign up for RAVE Alerts to let them know when weather events are in the area. Residents can do so by visiting http://www.salinecountymo.org and clicking on the “Emergency Management” tab.

In other news, Patrick Ryan was approved by commissioners to be the EMA assistant director. His salary will be paid via a grant. He will start on Monday, January 3, 2022.
