Sedalia School District 200 is expanding its effort to pursue a Missouri Purple Star designation to the entire district.

The Board of Education voted last month to authorize Superintendent Dr Todd Fraley to apply for the designation from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which recognizes a district’s efforts to support the students of military families. Fraley says the district initially pursued the designation for Smith-Cotton High School.

The designation is good for three years. The application deadline is Dec. 16, with DESE informing schools of their designation by Jan. 17.

Also at last month’s meeting, the board accepted a pair of donations from area businesses to support students.

The Sedalia 200 school board next meets Nov. 18, a week earlier than usual.
