The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen agreed to schedule a public hearing regarding the rezoning of a lot and a potential business during it most recent meeting.

The board discussed the rezoning of Lot 14, Block 2 in the Bruns Addition. The property owner of the lot, Rick Clemens, attended the meeting and spoke to the board about the community’s need for a laundromat. Clemens told the board the nearest laundromat for Sweet Springs residents is in Concordia and he hopes to provide one for the community. The board agreed to hold a public hearing on the zoning change and the business at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 5.

In other news, Phil Clevenger, of the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation, spoke at the meeting and reported that the foundation was going to take bids to fix the ditch behind their buildings. Clevenger said they were going to pour concrete to help with water drainage. This project will be at no cost to the city. Aldermen voted to allow the foundation to move forward with the project.

The board also discussed the possibility of joining the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation. The board discussed several options to become a member, including partnering with other businesses and joining at a lesser amount. No formal action was taken by the board.
