A Smithton woman sustained moderate injuries in a crash along Missouri Route 5 in Cooper County on Friday, July 4.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred when a vehicle driven by a New Jersey man attempted to pass another vehicle not involved in the crash while traveling along Missouri 5 at New Palestine Road. The New Jersey man’s vehicle struck the side of a 23-year-old Smithton woman’s vehicle, causing moderate injuries.

The Smithton woman was taken to a Columbia hospital for treatment. The accident was reported at 10:45 p.m. in Cooper County.
