The State Fair Roadrunners marked the opening of their new softball stadium Thursday, Apr. 2 with a pair of victories over North Central Missouri College.
The 10-3 and 10-9 victories over the Pirates were the first two games played at the new outdoor athletic complex to the west of the Fred E Davis Multipurpose Center. President Dr Brent Bates says the adjacent baseball field is near completion, and should see some games take place there later this month.
The new fields allow both Roadrunner programs to play on campus for the first time since the teams were established a decade ago. Bates notes that while Roadrunner baseball will miss the historic confines of Dey Field at Liberty Park, it’s also an exciting opportunity to bring more events and teams to Sedalia.
Bates says in addition to regional tournaments, he hopes to see area schools make use of the fields as needed.
The new softball stadium has allowed State Fair’s program to relocate from Mandy Thomas Field at Centennial Park. The team’s next home game is scheduled for Apr. 19 against Moberly Area Community College.
