A Carrollton man is facing a first-degree murder charge after he was accused of shooting his grandmother in their home Wednesday, Apr. 22.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says responded to a reported shooting at a home on the 100 block of West 14th Street in Carrollton around 10:25 p.m. According to the patrol, a deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of a deceased woman in the home. A witness at the scene identified a suspect that deputies took into custody, whom court documents identify as 28-year-old Dakota A Sweeney. A probable cause statement alleges that Sweeney got into an argument with the woman, identified as his grandmother, over chores in the home. Later the two were seated in a room, where Sweeney is accused of firing his handgun at the victim.
Sweeney has been charged in Carroll County with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Details about his bond and initial court appearance have not been released at this time. The Patrol, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and Carrollton Police Department continue to investigate.
