The Slater City Council approved a quote for its sewer lining work during its meeting on Tuesday, May 5.
The city received two quotes for the work, but decided to stick with Insituform in the amount of 152,904. The city has contracted Insituform for the work for the past decade.
In other news, City Administrator Gene Griffith provided an update to the council on the storm damage reported in last week’s severe storms. The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado touched down in Slater last week, creating substantial damage to city buildings and infrastructure and leaving residents without power for an extended period. Griffith credited the work of city workers and the community for coming together following the damage from the storm.
Griffith said the storm would need to be declared a disaster before the city or the county can receive SEMA and FEMA aid.
