The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 12-year-old boy drowned in swift water after falling off a tractor in Moniteau County on Monday, May 18.

Troopers responded to a report after 3 p.m. of two boys who fell off a tractor that was attempting to cross a low-water crossing along Hazel Dell Road, outside Latham. A 15-year-old was able to pull himself out of the water, but the younger boy was swept downstream. A search team found the 12-year-old around 8 p.m. about two miles downstream, where he was pronounced dead by the Moniteau County Coroner.

This is the fourth drowning that troopers in Central Missouri’s Troop F have responded to this year, and second this month.
