Residents in Saline County’s Common Road District will have a measure on August’s ballot asking them to renew the district’s property tax levy.
The Saline County Commission approved a commission order Wednesday, May 20 placing the renewal on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. If approved by voters, the levy would continue for the next four years at the rate of 35 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Presiding Commission Becky Plattner says the tax raises at least $340,000 per year for the district to maintain over 400 miles of roads.
.
Commissioners also accepted the low bid of $590,934 from Brookfield Box and Bridge for construction of a new bridge carrying 245th Road over Pass Branch outside Mount Leonard. Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner says construction should begin next month, with an anticipated completion date of Dec. 1. The commission also accepted a proposal from Higginbotham for renewal of the county’s COBRA coverage program.
