The Marshall School Board voted to waive a certain policy affecting vocational teachers during its meeting on Tuesday, June 19.
According to a release from the district, the board approved the waiving of Policy GCBA– one time only– so that Saline County Career Center teachers can move horizontally to their appropriate channel and move vertically down to the appropriate step on the salary schedule.
The release says “Beginning teachers must obtain a TAC (Temporary Authorization Certificate) or provisional certificate as approved by DESE. SCCC teachers are then placed on the Bachelor’s column and increments given one step for each one year of occupational experience, up to 10 years. Salary-schedule credit is granted up to a total of 10 yearly salary increments, provided such experience was gained within the 15-year period immediately preceding the current contract year. District Policy GCBA states: An employee may not advance more than one step vertically and two columns horizontally per year on the salary schedule unless such movement is allowed by the rules adopted by the board and is uniformly applicable to that particular salary schedule or is otherwise approved by the Board. (There have been several teachers who have been frozen at the bottom of a column, and once they increase their education level, they are still only allowed to move one step vertically.)”
In other news, the board approved the proposed MHS Handbook; Athletic Handbook; Coach and Activity Sponsor Handbook; and the MHS Classified Handbook; and approved the Early Childhood Program Review.
