A Sedalia man has been charged with several felonies for an alleged kidnapping incident in Pettis County on Saturday, December 15.
A probable-cause statement says Sedalia Police officers responded to a report of a male subject who was detained for allegedly trying to abduct a 10-year-old female in the 300 block of West 7th Street. Officers spoke with several witnesses at the scene as they had detained 28-year-old Corey Owens. Officers eventually handcuffed Owens as he reportedly resisted several times and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
According to the witnesses, Owens was noticed to be dragging the victim by the arm down the street as she was yelling for help. Video surveillance from a nearby business reportedly shows Owens carrying the victim who escaped at one point, but was recaptured as Owens trapped her against a parked vehicle.
Online court documents say Owens has been charged with a Class B Felony for First-Degree Kidnapping; a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; and two Class E Felonies for Assault in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest. Bond has been set at $100,000 cash or surety.
Owens’ initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
