The city of Marshall is going to try to get some help with funding to tear down the old buildings on the former campus of the Marshall Habilitation Center.
City Administrator David Haugland explained a proposed resolution to execute a memorandum of agreement with the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission for the purpose of applying for grant funding for demolition of certain structures at the Marshall Habilitation Center during the city council meeting on Monday, September 17.

Haugland said Pioneer Trails has adopted amounts for different types of grants it does, based on the number of hours that are going to go into that grant.

The council approved the resolution, with the cost not to exceed $2,827.
Haugland said the maximum the city can apply for is $250,000 for commercial structures, and anything the city will be doing at the Hab Center property will be considered commercial. He said it’s possible for the city to apply for a grant more than one year.
Haugland said the city will be taking down most of the group homes. He said the city is slated to begin tearing down the first of three sections of group homes in November and December.
