Marshall fire fighters spent part of their day on Wednesday, October 3, dousing a fire in a field near Van Meter State Park.
According to a spokesperson at the Marshall Fire Department, fire fighters were toned out at 12:48 p.m. to the blaze on Highway 122 at 305th Road. He said fire fighters got some help from a farmer who moved some dirt to create a ridge to help contain the fire on a windy day.
Still, he said 85 to 90 acres of the field of corn stalk stubble were charred. But they contained the fire before it reached the bean field.
He said fire fighters were back in quarters at 3:53 p.m.
No injuries were reported from the scene.
