A Sedalia man has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing a vehicle on October 8.
According to a probable-cause statement, the owner reported his vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of Smith-Cotton Junior High School during school hours. School administration reviewed surveillance video, and a suspect was seen entering the vehicle and driving it away.
On October 9, a Sedalia Police officer responded to a report of vehicle check in the 300 block of West 10th Street. The caller reported to dispatch that a man pulled up to his residence in a stolen vehicle.
The witness reported to authorities that Anthony Hill was the driver of the vehicle. During questioning, Hill denied any knowledge of the stolen vehicle. While at the residence, the officer observed that Hill’s left pocket was pulled out as if something already had been pulled out of it. A short time later, the officer noticed a set of keys on the floor nearby. The keys observed where the keys to the stolen vehicle.
According to online court documents, Hill has been charged with a Class D Felony for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.
Hill was formally arraigned on Thursday, October 10, and his counsel-status hearing is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
