Charles William Von Holten, 78, of La Monte, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 10, 2020.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the St. Patrick Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul with Father Gustav Montanez officiating. Pallbearers will be Aaron Warner, Rick Kraus, Matthew Kraus, Travis Warner, Zachary Warner, and Steven Herriman. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. Those wishing to attend should wear a mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Center for Human Services Children’s Therapy Center. Memorials may be left at or mailed to McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, 519 S. Ohio St., Sedalia, MO 65301.

Charles William Von Holten was born January 5, 1942, on the family farm southwest of LaMonte. He was the only child of Claus Henry “Jimmy” Von Holten and Adeline Susan Weller Von Holten.

He attended Pleasant Green School, a one room country school, for his elementary schooling. In 1959, he graduated from La Monte High School. He was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard from 1962-1968.

On May 8, 1965, at St John’s Catholic Church in Bahner, Missouri, he married Carolyn Marie Reusch. Together they farmed for 55 years, expanded the original family farm and raised Black Angus. In 1980, they started Von Holten Liquid Feed Service. Charles also enjoyed working and trucking for Green Hill Farms.

Charles was considered a croquet king, enjoyed playing Pitch, and growing garden vegetables. He especially enjoyed truck driving and was known for his love of John Deere equipment. He was a member of Farm Bureau and Ag Co-op, where he served as a board member and later as President.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Chapel at Whiteman Air Force Base.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters Irene Rose Kraus (Rick) of Marshall, and Carolyn Susann Warner (Aaron) of La Monte; grandchildren Matthew Wayne Kraus (Kati) of Fenton, Travis James Warner (Kaylee) of La Monte, Zachary Charles Warner of Deary, Idaho, Erin Janett Marie Warner of Jefferson City and Jacob Earl Warner; and one great-granddaughter, Clara Ann Marie Warner. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tom and Joyce Herriman of Bucklin, Mark and Mary Parent, of Blue Eye and Caroll and Loretta McCullough of Branson.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and daughter, Anne Marie.
