The Missouri State High School Activities Association will allow select basketball contests in the state to use a shot clock.

MSHSAA’s Board of Directors made the decision at their June meeting to allow varsity tournaments during the regular season to install a 35-second shot clock. In a statement Wednesday, assistant executive director Doug Fessler said that a number of coaches had requested their use, particularly at tournaments featuring teams from states where the shot clock is standard.

Tournaments using a shot clock must receive advance approval from MSHSAA, ensure that the clock is visible and permanently installed, and inform all participating schools of its use. Each contest at a tournament must have three officials.

MSHSAA notes that the shot clock will not be implemented this season during their postseason series.
