The Marceline Tigers Scholar Bowl team will make their first-ever state semifinal appearance Friday at the MSHSAA Class Two State Tournament in Columbia.

The Tigers dispatched the WildKats of King City by identical 340-110 scores in last week’s best-of-three quarterfinals. Head coach Dustin Watson credits the Tigers’ tournament schedule that prepared his Tigers for the series that has led them to an appearance at Memorial Union.

Marceline emerged from a tough District Seven tournament at Schuyler County, which featured several schools from Marceline’s former conference, the Lewis and Clark.

Leading the way for the Marceline Tigers are junior Cash Barnes, senior captain Nora Vanderlocht, senior Jackson Kidd, and freshman Jaxon Dorrell. The Lewis and Clark’s Salisbury is among the opponents Marceline will face in the round-robin semifinals Friday, as well as Clopton and Thomas Jefferson Independent of Joplin. The state tournament for Classes One, Two and Three begins at noon, with the first and third place games slated for 3:15 p.m.
