Thanks to larger Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots in December, the Missouri Lottery’s latest transfer reportedly is more than $29 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund for public education.
A news release says this monthly transfer of $29,158,559 is based on all December sales, bringing the total profits transferred in FY18 to more than $181.5 million.
Since Missouri Lottery sales started in 1986, the Lottery reportedly has generated more than $5.8 billion for the state and public education. Annual Lottery proceeds comprise about four percent of the state’s funding for public education – an effort shared by local, state and federal governments.
Programs currently funded in FY18 include the A+ Scholarship Program, the Foundation Program and Access Missouri, among many others.
