LESTER ELMER ZIMMERSCHIED 10/28/16

Lester Elmer Zimmerschied, 69, of Mora, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 31, at Brauersville Lutheran Church in Cole Camp. Burial will be in Brauersville Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp.

A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, at Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp, where a visitation will begin at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Brauersville Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Marie Carnes, of the home;  two daughters, Paula A. Meives and Adam of Cave Junction, Oregon, and  Tammy S. Engles of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four sons, David Mahnesmith, Jr., Will Mahnesmith and Angie of Galesburg, Illinois, Larry Mahnesmith of Versailles, and Clay Mahnesmith of Macomb, Illinois; two sisters, Alice Jolliffe of Marshall and Margaret Zimmerschied of Cole Camp; two brothers, Eldon “Butch” Zimmerschied and Linda and Gary Zimmerschied  and Bonnie, all of Stover; ten grandchildren, Tyler Saunders, Katelynn Hammond, Makalya Meives, Jaret Meives, Tabitha Engles, Michael Engles, Kurtis Mahnesmith, Kacy Mahnesmith, Tiffany Mahnesmith and Bradley Mahnesmith; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer John and Edna Ida (Schumacher) Zimmerschied, and two brothers, Marvin and Milton Zimmerschied.

NATIVE MISSOURI LECTURE AT ARROW ROCK ON NOV. 5

The First Saturday Lecture series will continue at Arrow Rock State Historic Site at 10 a.m. on November 5 at the site visitor’s center.

The lecture, sponsored by The Friends of Arrow Rock, Inc., will be “Native Missouri at the Time of the Louisiana Purchase,” presented by Mike Dickey, the historic site manager. The lecture is free and open to the public.

What is now the state of Missouri was the home of nine American Indian nations in 1803. This program will provide a broad overview of the history and culture of the nine tribes that called Missouri their home and what ultimately happened to them.

Dickey has collaborated on projects with the Osage Tribal Museum and Osage Nation Cultural Center in Pawhuska, Okla. for the past 15 years. He is the author of “People of the River’s Mouth: In Search of the Missouria Indians” the first book written about the native nation from whom the river and state took its name. He is also the author of “Arrow Rock: Crossroads of the Missouri Frontier.”

Shirley Jean Hotmer, age 70, of Odessa, died Thursday, October 27, 2016.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, at 11 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in Odessa. Burial will be in Odessa Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home in Odessa.

Cecile Thorpe, age 96, of Columbia and formerly of Armstrong, died Thursday, October 27, 2016.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will take place from 12 to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
